During the period January 1–10, 480,000 tons of grain were exported from Russia (compared to 1.476 million tons in the same period last year). This included 468,000 tons of wheat (-57%), 10,400 tons of barley (-93%), and no corn exports.
In the first half of the season, Russia exported 34.257 million tons of grain (-5.4% compared to 2023/24 and 36.209 million tons in 2022/23). This included 30 million tons of wheat (+0.7%), 2.9 million tons of barley (-27%), and 1.284 million tons of corn (-46%). Major buyers included Egypt (6.348 million tons of wheat), Bangladesh (2.652 million tons), Algeria (2.231 million tons), Turkey (2.137 million tons), Israel (1.454 million tons), Kenya (1.386 million tons), Morocco (1.187 million tons), and Nigeria (1.072 million tons).
For the week of January 15–21, the export tax on Russian wheat will be 4,245 rubles/ton (compared to 4,346 rubles the previous week), the export tax on barley will be 2,542.9 rubles/ton (up from 2,220.1), and the export tax on corn will be 4,436.4 rubles/ton.
In 2024, Russia’s sunseed production amounted to 16.574 million tons (-0.684 million compared to 2023). Over the past five years, the production has increased by 1.195 million tons, and over the last ten years, by 8.09 million tons. The planted areas were 9.79 million hectares (-0.8%), with an average yield of 1.76 tons/hectare (compared to 1.84 previously).
In 2025, Russia's oilseed processing capacity will increase by 5% to 35 million tons. Over the past five years, processing capacity has grown by 25%, while processing volumes have risen by 40%. Sunseed oil production in 2023/24 reached 7.8 million tons, with a forecast of 6.5 million tons for 2024/25. Exports for 2023/24 amounted to 5.2 million tons.
AgResource forecasts Brazil's 2024/25 corn production at 122.39 million tons (down from the previous estimate of 123.56 million tons). The reduction is linked to the slow harvesting campaign of soybeans. The second corn production is planted immediately after soybeans and accounts for 70–75% of the country's total corn production. Farmers have harvested only 0.3% of the first corn crop areas (compared to 2.3% a year earlier). Soybean production is expected to reach 170.04 million tons (down from 172.07 million tons).
As of January 1, 2025, India’s rice stocks reached a record 60.9 million tons, well above the target level of 7.6 million tons. Wheat stocks stood at 18.4 million tons, compared to the target level of 13.8 million tons and the five-year average of 26.7 million tons.
