The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) predicts a 55% chance of a La Niña event occurring between December 2024 and February 2025.

According to a forecast by IKAR, the area planted with oilseed crops in Russia is expected to increase to 19 million hectares in 2025, up from 18 million hectares in 2024. This growth is considered very significant.

Between July 1 and December 11, 2024, Ukraine exported 19.089 million tons of grains (compared to 14.697 million tons during the same period last year), including 0.715 million tons in December (1.6 million tons last year). Exports included 9.13 million tons of wheat (6.296 million), 1.867 million tons of barley (0.914 million), and 7.776 million tons of corn (7.351 million).

The Ministry of Agriculture of China has revised its forecast for the country's 2024/25 corn production to 293.84 million tons (down from 297.01 million tons in 2023/24). The soybean production is expected to reach 114.56 million tons (compared to 116.94 million tons previously).

In November, palm oil reserves in Malaysia dropped to their lowest level in four years, reaching 1.84 million tons (-2.6% compared to October). The decline is attributed to a 9.8% reduction in production for the month, down to 1.62 million tons, the lowest for November since 2020. Exports of palm oil totaled 1.49 million tons for the month (-14.7%).

The government of Pakistan has lifted its ban on the import of GM wheat, which was imposed at the end of 2022. The move is aimed at supporting the poultry sector, given its currently unprofitable production.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) predicts a 55% chance of a La Niña event occurring between December 2024 and February 2025. It is noted that the phenomenon is expected to be weak and short-lived. Even if atmospheric cooling occurs, it will not offset the vast amounts of greenhouse gases that continue to accumulate and warm the atmosphere.
