- The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia predicts a production of oilseeds in the country in 2024 of 28 million tons (29.9 in 2023). However, the grain production estimate decreases to 132 million tons (144.9).
- According to the forecast of APK-Inform, the rapeseed production in the EU in 2024 will reach 4.3 million tons, which is 7% less than in 2023. The decline will be due to the smaller area -4% to 1.49 million hectares.
- From the beginning of the season until April 17, 2024, grain exports from Ukraine reach 38.608 million tons (39.707 a year earlier), including in April 3.749 million tons (1.731). Wheat exports amounted to 15.011 million tons (1.169), barley exports reached 2.132 million tons (170,000) and corn exports were 21.167 million tons (2.404).
- The Ministry of Agriculture of France has raised its estimate for the areas with winter crops in France to 4.37 million hectares (4.36 in the previous estimate). The areas with soft wheat (including spring wheat) will be 4.39 million hectares (-7.7%).
- In March, soybean imports into China reached 5.54 million tons, the lowest level in the last 4 years and 20% less than imports in March 2023. During the period January-March, imports reached 18.58 million tons (20.83 a year earlier), the lowest level since 2020. The decrease is due to high world prices and reduced consumption by livestock breeders in China. Imports will increase in the second quarter of 2024 as exports from Brazil will be at the peak of their season.
- On April 16, 2024, palm oil futures on the commodity exchange in Malaysia reached their lowest level in the last 6 weeks. The decline is due to sharp competition from other vegetable oils. Another factor is the expected decrease in the price of oil.
- South Korean MFG has purchased 68,000 tons of feed wheat at a price of 244.49 USD/ton C&F + 1.5 USD/ton for unloading at the port and delivery in July. At the end of last week, the company purchased 68,000 tons of corn at a price of 248.50 USD/ton C&F.
- On April 16, 2024, Jordan canceled a tender to purchase 120,000 tons of milling wheat of unspecified origin with delivery within June - July. The next tender is announced for April 23, 2024.
- Tunisia has announced a tender to purchase 25,000 tons of durum wheat with delivery in May. At the previous tender, 50,000 tons of durum were purchased at prices of 383.93 – 384.48 USD/ton C&F.
