Grain Highlights 17.01.2024

On January 16, 2024, Algeria purchased 900,000 tons of milling wheat from Russia, Romania, France, Italy, and Bulgaria through Buildcom.

According to SovEcon's forecast, wheat exports from Russia are expected to reach 3.5 - 4 million tons in January (compared to 3.9 million in January 2023). As of January 16, 2024, export contracts for 2 million tons have been concluded (compared to 3.3 million in December).

From July 1, 2023, to January 17, 2024, Ukraine has exported 20.941 million tons of grain (compared to 25.136 million tons in the same period last year), including 2.475 million tons in January (compared to 2.39 million). The exports include 8.328 million tons of wheat (9.082 million), 1.22 million tons of barley (1.734 million), and 11.244 million tons of corn (14.219 million). For the third consecutive month, Ukrainians are exporting more grain compared to the previous year, despite the challenges posed by the ongoing grain corridor and Russian interference. This success is notable given the reduced freight costs and faster processing of goods.

The Rosario Grain Exchange has raised its already high forecast for corn production in Argentina for the 2023/24 season by 1 million tons, now estimating it at 60 million tons. This revision comes shortly after the previous increase was announced. The forecast is +24 million tons compared to the 2022/23 production.

On January 17, 2024, Tunisia is conducting a tender to purchase 150,000 tons of soft wheat and 50,000 tons of hard wheat with deliveries in February and March.
