Grain Highlights 05.04.2023

According to Conab data, as of 04/01/2023, the sowing of second corn crop in Brazil reached 96% of the planned areas (+5% for the week).

- Wheat prices on the domestic market in Russia have fallen to November 2019 levels. As of March 1, 2023, wheat stocks held by agricultural organizations of Russia were 17.4 million tons (+82% compared to the average level for the last five years).

- Since the beginning of the season, the export of sunseed oil from Russia has reached 2.1 million tons. A record result for this season was achieved in 2019/20 – 2.13 million tons.

- From the beginning of the season to 04/05/2023, 38,452 million tons of grain were exported from Ukraine, including 476,000 tons in April. 13.17 million tons of wheat (172,000), 2.285 million tons of barley (9,000) and 22.676 million tons of corn (294,000) were exported.

- Currently, a large part of the winter crops in Ukraine are in good and excellent condition. The soil has a normal temperature and moisture for spring sowing.

- According to data from the European Commission, 20.8 million tons of corn (+71% compared to the previous season) were delivered to the EU over the period of July - March. The largest supplier is Ukraine with 11 million tons of grain, followed by Brazil with 8 million tons. During the same period, the EU exported 1.9 million tons of corn (-62%).

- The government of Poland will start buying grain from the domestic market in order to reduce price pressure from Ukrainian imports. So far, 140 million euros have been allocated for this purpose.

- Yesterday Chicago commodity funds were net sellers of 6,000 contracts of corn, 5,500 contracts of soybeans and 1,500 contracts of wheat.

- According to Conab data, as of 04/01/2023, the sowing of second corn crop in Brazil reached 96% of the planned areas (+5% for the week). In Mato Grosso, the campaign is completely finished. First corn crop has been harvested on 48% of the areas (+6% and 52% a year earlier).

- According to a forecast of the Rosario Grain Exchange, the export of soymeal from Argentina will be up to 20 million tonsin 2022/23 (27 in 2021/22). The export of soymeal from Brazil will reach 21-23 million tons.

- Importers of soft wheat in Morocco have fully used the import quota given the deteriorating condition of the crops and the expected low production. In March, 508,000 tons of soft wheat were imported into the country against a quota of 500,000 tons. In a month, millers in the country process 450,000 – 500,000 tons of soft wheat. The largest supplier was France with 300,000 tons during the month.

- The EU will grant Egypt 40 million euros to improve food supply in the country.
