As of September 29, 2023, Russia has harvested 125.3 million tons of grain (-15.8 compared to 2022/23), including 88.6 million tons of wheat (101.8) and 20.9 million tons of barley (23.9). The harvested sunseed is 6.1 million tons (2.6).
In September, the Russian port of Novorossiysk exported 2.091 million tons of wheat (2.224 in August and 1.432 in September 2022) and 0.157 million tons of barley. During the month, the grain was destined for Iran (490,700 tons), Egypt (245,800 tons), Indonesia (221,000 tons), Saudi Arabia (188,700 tons), and Sudan (139,000 tons).
On the first day of October, only 7,000 tons of grain were exported from Ukraine, including 5,000 tons of wheat and 2,000 tons of corn. Since the beginning of the season, exports have reached 6.676 million tons (8.997).

According to the forecast by Strategie Grains for 2023/24, rapeseed production in the EU is expected to reach 19.5 million tons (+0.6 compared to the previous estimate and 19.5 in 2022/23), sunseed production is projected at 10.1 million tons (-0.2 and +0.8), and soybean production is estimated at 2.9 million tons (+0.4 compared to 2022/23).
According to USDA data as of September 1, 2023, wheat stocks in the United States were 48.4 million tons, which is lower than the previous year, including 1.6 million tons of durum (+7%). Corn stocks were 34.6 million tons (-1%), sorghum stocks were 0.6 million tons (-49%), barley stocks were 3.9 million tons (+9%), oats stocks were 1.1 million tons (+20%), and soybean stocks were 7.3 million tons (-2%).
On Friday, Chicago commodity funds were net sellers of 11,000 wheat contracts, 10,000 corn contracts, and 8,500 soybean contracts.
According to data from the Grain Exchange in Buenos Aires as of September 27, 2023, planting of corn for the 2023/24 crop in Argentina has been completed on 7.3% of the planned areas (+2% for the week, +6% compared to 2022/23, and averaging 15.4% over the last five years). The slow planting is due to the lack of moisture in the soil.
Algeria has purchased 30,000 tons of forage barley with delivery in November. Last week, 60,000 tons of corn were purchased at a price of 260 - 262 USD/ton C&F with delivery in October from Brazil and Argentina.
