Grain Highlights 19.03.2024

According to MDIC data, from March 11th to 17th, Brazil exported 54,100 tons of corn (-68.8% compared to the previous week). Soybean exports were 2.7 million tons (3.6).

- The European Commission will impose an import tax on grain imports from Russia and Belarus at 95 EUR/ton.

- According to AHDB's forecast for 2024, wheat areas in the UK will be 1.5 million hectares (-15% compared to 2023), which will be the minimum level for the last four years. Winter barley areas will be 355,000 hectares (-22%), spring barley areas will reach 881,000 hectares (+29%), rapeseed areas will be 280,000 hectares (-28%).

According to Anec, in March, Brazil's corn exports will reach 146,600 tons (713,700 in February and 780,100 in March 2023), and soybean exports are expected at 12.9 – 14.5 million tons.

- China's Customs Service reports that from January to February, the country imported 6.19 million tons of corn (+16.1% compared to the previous year). During the period, wheat shipments were 2.51 million tons (-16.9%), soybean shipments were 13.04 million tons (-8.8%), 1.21 million tons of vegetable oils (-12.4%), including 390,000 tons of palm oil (-37.1%).

- Analysts expect palm oil prices in Malaysia to decrease by 6 – 12% in April. This is due to large soybean shipments from South America and increasing production in Malaysia. An increase in reserves is also expected in April-May. In 2024, global palm oil production will increase by only 0.11%, soyoil production is expected to increase by +2.88%, rapeseed oil is projected to go up by +3.48% and sunseed oil is forecasted to increase by +3.94%.

- In 2023/24, wheat production in Saudi Arabia will be 1.2 million tons (1.18 in 2022/23). Imports during the season will reach 4.8 million tons (4.63).

- Jordan has announced a tender to purchase 120,000 tons of wheat of arbitrary origin with deliveries within June – July.
