- Over the period of 01.07 - 15.10.2022, 16.8 million tons of grain were exported from Russia (-13% compared to the previous year). In the first half of October, exports increased to 2.45 million tons.
- From the opening of the grain corridor of Ukraine up until 17.10.2022, 7.8 million tons of grain were exported.
- As of 17.10.2022, 2.8 million hectares of winter cereals were sown in Ukraine, which is 58% of the plan (+0.95 for the last week). 2.5 million hectares (61%) were sown with wheat and 265,000 hectares (39%) were sown with barley. 999,000 hectares (104%) were planted with rapeseed.
- Yesterday, Chicago commodity funds were net buyers of 500 wheat contracts and net sellers of 4,500 corn contracts and neutral on soybeans.
- According to Conab data, as of 15/10/2022, 31% of wheat areas were harvested in Brazil (+5% for the week and 38% a year earlier). Sowing of first corn crop was carried out on 31% of the planned areas (+4% and 32%), and the sowing campaign of soybeans has been completed on 22% of the planned areas (+11% and 24%). In many places, campaigns have been delayed by rainfall.
- According to an estimate of the Rosario Grain Exchange, as of 10/14/2022, 1.6 million hectares of corn (16% of the plan) of the 2022/23 crop have been sown in Argentina, which is the lowest level for the last 6 years. A year earlier, 2.8 million hectares were planted with corn (24%). Corn production is expected to reach 56 million tons (+5% compared to 2021/22).
- Australia's 2022/23 grain production will be close to a record despite heavy and prolonged rainfall in recent weeks. According to Rabobank, the production will reach 61.9 million tons (-1% compared to 2021/22 and +41% compared to the five-year average). Wheat production is projected at 35.5 million tons (-2%). Barley production is expected at 14.8 million tons (+7%) and the canola production is estimated at a record 7.2 million tons (+7%). Total exports are also expected to reach a record level of 47.5 million tons.
- The Philippines has bought 165,000 tons of feed wheat most likely from Australia at 345 USD/ton C&F and January-March delivery.
- On 21.10.2022, Turkey will hold a tender for the purchase of 495,000 tons of red milling wheat of any origin and delivery within November-December.
