Grain Highlights 19.09.2022

In August, China imported 1.8 million tons of corn (-44% compared to August 2021), 530,000 tons of wheat (-25%), 250,000 tons of barley (-64%) and 670,000 tons of sorghum (-18%).

- Over the period of 01.08 - 18.09.2022, 2.645 million tons of grain were exported from the Russian port of Novorossiysk, including 2.276 million tons of wheat, 339,000 tons of barley and 30,000 tons of peas. A year earlier, grain exports were 3.322 million tons, including 2.911 million tons of wheat, 371,000 tons of barley and 40,000 tons of peas.

- During the period of 01.07 - 19.09.2022, the export of grain from Ukraine reached 6,364 million tons, including 2.067 million tons in September. A year earlier, exports were 11,694 million tons (2,927). 2,063 million tons of wheat (6,877), 557,000 tons of barley (3,238) and 3,719 million tons of corn (1,392) were exported. The export of flour was 20,000 tons (31,700), including wheat flour exports of 17,800 tons (31,400).

- Due to the severe drought, the Rosario Grain Exchange will lower its 2022/23 corn areas forecast. In the previous assessment, they were 8.2 million hectares.

- According to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 339,300 tons of canola were exported from Australia in July (490,500 in June). The biggest buyers were UAE with 126,200 tons, Japan with 76,100 tons, Belgium with 62,200 tons and Mexico with 42,700 tons. For the whole of 2022/23, Abares forecast a production of 6.64 million tons (6.76 in 2021/22).

Over the period of January - August, the import of corn was 16.9 million tons (-21%), wheat imports were 6.3 million tons (-10%), barley imports reached 4.1 million tons (-43%) and sorghum imports totaled 8 million tons (+19 %).

- Saudi Arabia has purchased 556,000 tons of wheat with 12.5% protein ​​from the EU, North and South America and Australia at an average price of 371.61 USD/ton C&F and delivery within 10/11/2022 – 25/02/2023.

- Pakistan has announced a tender to import 300,000 tons of milling wheat. At the previous tender on 28.07.2022, 185,000 tons of wheat were purchased at a price of 407.49 USD/ton C&F.
