Grain Highlights 14.06.2022

Over the period of 01.07.2021 - 14.06.2022, 42.6 million tons of grain were exported from Russia, including 35.6 million tons of wheat according to the Russian Grain Union.

- In April, the production of sunseed oil in Russia reached a record 738,000 tons due to high demand. The previous best achievement was 700,000 tons set in December 2020. Over the period of September 2021 - April 2022, vegetable oils production reached 5.1 million tons and 1.6 million tons were exported. The biggest customers were Turkey, India and Egypt.

- The sowing of spring crops in Russia reached 52 million hectares, which is 97% of the plan.

- Over the week of June 6-12, 104,800 tons of grain were exported from the Russian port of Novorossiysk, which is 6% less than the previous week. 52,300 tons of wheat and 52,500 tons of corn were exported.

- Over the period of 01.07.2021 - 14.06.2022, 42.6 million tons of grain were exported from Russia, incl. 35.6 million tons of wheat according to the Russian Grain Union. Since the beginning of the quotas (15.02.2022) the export of grain is 9.54 million tons, incl. wheat 7.4 million tons.

- According to the forecast of the agricultural lobby Coldiretti, the wheat production in Italy will fall by 15% due to drought in 2022. WHeat production will reach 6.5 million tons from 1.71 million hectares. The country produces only 36% of its consumption of soft wheat and 62% of its durum wheat consumption.

- Yesterday, commodity funds in Chicago were net sellers of 1,000 contracts of corn, 15,500 contracts of soybeans and 1,000 contracts of wheat.

- According to USDA data, as of June 12, 2022, 97% of the planned areas for corn have been sown in the United States. 72% of the crops are in good and excellent condition (-1% for the week and 68% a year earlier). Soybeans have been sown on 88% of the planned areas (+10%). 70% of the soybean crops are in good and excellent condition (62% in 2021).

- The Ministry of Agriculture of Iran plans to buy 6.5 million tons of wheat from local farmers out of a total production of 9 million tons. 3 million tons of wheat have already been purchased.

- In May, imports of palm oil in India decreased by 10% due to the ban on exports from Indonesia. The SEA reports imports of 514,020 tons of palm oil (572,500 in April). Soyoil imports were 373,000 tons (+27%) and sunseed oil imports doubled to 118,500 tons.

- The authorities in India may allow the export of wheat to Bangladesh, UAE, Indonesia, Yemen and Oman. On 13.05.2022, the export of 750,000 tons of wheat was allowed. In May, wheat exports from India reached 1.13 million tons (-23% compared to April), and in April there was a record high level of wheat exports of 1.46 million tons.
