Grain Highlights 27.07.2021

On July 26, 2021, the Argentine government declared a state of emergency due to the extremely low level of the main waterway in the country - the Parana River. The level is at a 77-year low.

- MARS has minimally increased its expectations for crop yields in the EU in 2021. The wheat yield is expected at 5.82 tons/hectare (5.79 tons/hectare in July and 5.47 tons/hectare on average for the last 5 years). The barley yield is projected at 4.96 tons/hectare (4.97 and 4.77) and the corn yield is expected at 7.88 tons/hectare (7.84 and 7.75).

- The Brazilian meat production company JBC SA has agreed to import 30 cargoes of Argentine corn.

- On July 26, 2021, the Argentine government declared a state of emergency due to the extremely low level of the main waterway in the country - the Parana River. The level is at a 77-year low. This makes it difficult to export all cereals and oilseeds.

- Turkey has announced a tender for the purchase of 395,000 tons of red wheat and delivery within September 16-30. A tender has been announced for the purchase of 515,000 tons of feed barley of any origin and delivery within September 1 - 15. This season, Turkey is extremely active in buying wheat and barley.

- In 2021, the grain production in Morocco reached 10.32 million tons, which is 221% more than the previous year, including:

  • soft wheat production of 5.6 million tons
  • durum wheat production of 2.48 million tons
  • barley production of 2.78 million tons of barley
